Elves pulls the ye olde switcheroo

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Imagine waking up to the alarm clock you’ve set on the night of Christmas eve, rubbing your sleepy eyes, flipping your blanket aside and immediately start sprinting, jumping and sliding down the stairs to open up your present under the Christmas tree in anticipation for the gift your parents bought you. Then you tear the gift wrappings asunder like a ravaging starving predator with gleaming eyes of lust, thinking that this is indeed a trophy worth bragging about due to the sheer weight of the prey.

As the wrappings fall apart like autumn leaves, the lust increased tenfold as what you see is the shiny, sexy black behemoth known as the Playstation 3. Laughing maniacally and screaming “Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God ~~~” you ripped opened the box and yanked out the PS3 thinking that you’d never see sunshine ever again.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waoFHBQwZsU]

Oh how naive you are. What you yanked out isn’t exactly what you’d hope for. Instead of a technological powerhouse, you yanked out a thick phone book of Thousand Oaks, USA. That damn elf pulled the ye olde switcheroo before Santa chucks the box into his red sack of goodies. Elves, cheeky creatures. Not exactly something you’d want on Christmas day eh?

Well this happened to 13 year old Brandon Burns on Christmas morning. Apparently, he was more amused by the whole thing rather than angry. His parents however aren’t exactly as amused as their son especially since they spent $499USD for the PS3. They said that they plan on taking the phone book, the box, and their receipt back to the Thousand Oaks EB Games store where they bought it and hoped that the store believes their story. All the best guys!

Kids

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Here I am back in KL again, although for entirely different reasons. Been staying at my mum’s youngest sister’s house for a few days. She has two kids, the boy is eight years old and the the girl five. The eldest is a super hyperactive boy, not only mentally and physically, his mouth is also as active. The girl on the other hand is quiet, stubborn and shy at times. What a vast difference.

So for those few days I’ve been playing baby-sitter. At times they drove me to exhaustion and sometimes made me feel like not having kids in the future, but then again I love kids, their energy and innocence does make you affectionate. I can only hope that my kids would not be as hyperactive as the boy.

However, me myself being a hyperactive monkey when I was a kid does increase the probability of me having hyperactive kids T_T

12 months

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

This day marks the day another twelve months have past since we’ve started dating few years ago. This year is special. This is the first twelve months without any argument or problems. It goes to show that with patience, tolerance and understanding, we can avoid a lot of unnecessary conflicts. I guess, as the years goes by, we grew more mature and have a different perspective on things.

Looking back over the year, I’m thankful for being able to be with her. It is really hard to find someone who is very understanding, always there for you and see things the way you do. Despite this, I’ve found that someone in her. It really does take two to make any relationship work.

Happy anniversary my love. Love you always.

http://home.student.uu.se/mane2743/%D6vrigt/KL-TwinTower.jpgI’ve finally took the plunge a week ago and took the bus down to KL at around 8 am in the morning. Best decision I’ve ever made that’s for sure. After being separated for nine months, I’m finally united with my love.In that one week or so I’ve been in KL, I’ve managed to meet up with my friends, watched a couple of movies, meet my gf’s friends, had lots of alcohol =p and most important of all, being with her =D

Paddington Pancake - BurgerThis trip has also been a food tasting galore. Had dinner one night at Paddington Pancakes at the Curve. The concept of that restaurant is very similar to the Pancake Parlour in Australia. Basically, the restaurant endeavors to associate every single dish on the menu with pancakes. For example, instead of using bread for the burger I ordered, they used pancakes instead.

Paddington PancakeThe one dish that caught my eye was something called “The Volcano” (or something to that effect). It is basically tons of pancakes stacked up high with lots of ice-cream around it. It is supposedly able to feed ten persons and costs around RM60. Sad to say, no one else wanted to share that with me. I still dream of it to this day. Sniff.

I’ve also managed to try some Japanese cuisine (my favourite) at Sakae Sushi. The design of the store is pretty cool. There is a LCD at each table with an attached mouse and a conveyor belt carrying plates of sushis. The LCD is there for you to place orders for specific dishes. The sheer variety of dishes is also a big plus. This place beats Sushi King flat.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1402/575363991_0b612e296f_o.jpgWe also made a trip to Kajang to hunt for food. Kajang is famous for its Satay. For those who have no idea what a Satay is, it resembles a kebab. A Satay consists of a thin stick with skewered meat and is eaten with a bowl of sauce. The sauce varies for each outlet and it is one of the main things that makes a good Satay.

Since we were in Kajang, we’d be crazy not to try Kajang’s Satay. The establishment we went to resembles an old wooden fort (the entrance that is). Kajang-ites sure are proud of their Satays. The meat they serve includes the usual chicken, beef and mutton. In addition, they also serve “exotic” meat such as venison, rabbit meat, stomach and liver. I’ve absolutely no idea which animal the organs came from =x I must say, the Satay there is really one of the best I’ve ever eaten!

Of course, no food hunting trip (in Malaysia) would be complete without hawker food. Been to SS2 twice to indulge in the ye olde hawker food all Malaysians have come to love. Although some of those could also be found in Melbourne, it does not retain the authentic Malaysian flavour.

Now that I’m back in Ipoh, all excitement has been all but vanished, although it could be counted as a blessing in disguise as my stomach needs some rest heh. Time to plan for my next trip. Penang? Singapore? We’ll see.
