CNY in Melbourne

Friday, February 8th, 2008

I was born 22 years ago on the first day of Chinese New Year. This year marks the first year I celebrated CNY in Melbourne. The atmosphere is no where as near CNY back in that backwater place which I can’t seem to recall the name of =p Although its still nice celebrating here, the thought of celebrating CNY without my other half constantly lingers around me.

I had to sacrifice 2 months worth of precious time to come back to Melbourne to search for a home. Till today, no success can be found. Sometimes I wonder is it really worth it. I’m here alone doing all the hard-work, spending money to fax, travelling under rain and shine, walking a million miles knowing all along the futility of it all without some necessary documents which I couldn’t obtained myself. Knowing that I could’ve just spend that TWO months worth of time with my other half instead of going through this futile exercise only serves to increase ire.

Now, having stated my frustrations, its time to go on with the spoils. First up, is my sexy new Nokia N95 8gb.

That is one sexy phone. It has 8 gigabyte of internal memory, integrated GPS, excellent connectivity (Bluetooth, IR, USB, Wireless), built in music and video player taking advantage of the huge amount of memory, a 5 megapixel camera and it operates on a S60 operating system allowing me to install various applications. Future features available for download at a later date is the N-gage software (Nokia’s failed attempt at a mobile gaming system >.>). It also features an downloadable system upgrades in the same vein as Sony’s PSP and PS3′s firmware updates.

Been using it for about a week now and i must say that I’m impressed. The GPS isn’t as robust as a full-fledged GPS system. It takes a long time to link to the satellite and often losses connection, but I’ve been using it more of an interactive map to find my way around. It is especially useful for my house hunting. Currently on a 100 MB mobile broadband plan as well. Been surfing the net on my mobile quite often for some on the spot needed information (e.g. to search for Vista compatibility of a hardware or game reviews). Have been testing the camera and video capture functions vigorously and I’m very impressed at the quality. Its better than my digital camera!

Parents bought me a Lacoste polo shirt. I’m surprised actually because I’m currently looking to replace my wardrobe with more collared/polo shirts. As I grow older, I find my wardrobe doesn’t really suit me anymore. Sign of getting old T_T

We had CNY dinner at Sharkfin House, Melbourne. It was a very good dinner. Had lobsters, sharfin soup (as usual) and a bigass abalone! Had all night entertainment, with lion dance as well. All in all, a very good dinner. It feels more like a chic party actually. There was also an artist there drawing free caricatures. Heres what he drew me:

Also, I’ve a nice surprise in my email on CNY day itself. This is the email:

I’ve shrunk the image to fit the post but feel free to click on it to see a clearer version of it. For those of you lazy bums who can’t be bothered to click on it, its an invitation to join Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Closed Beta. I’ve played for about an hour or so and am liking what I’ve seen so far. As I’m under a Non-Disclosure Agreement now, I can’t say anymore than that.

Although with the many material excitement I’ve had recently, it still doesn’t ease the fact that I can’t celebrate it with her. Anyways, Happy CNY ALL!!!
